Airport Lounge Access: Worth It or Overrated?

Airport lounge access sounds like luxury — and sometimes, it is. But the real value isn’t what most people think.

It’s not about free snacks or drinks. It’s about how you move through the airport.

On long layovers or international trips, lounges give you space, comfort, and a place to reset. That alone can change how your entire travel day feels.

But not all lounges are created equal.

Some are overcrowded. Some feel underwhelming. And access has gotten tighter — Amex Platinum cardholders now pay $50 per adult guest at Centurion Lounges unless they spend $75,000 annually on the card. New restrictions effective July 2026 also require guests to be on the same flight as the cardholder.

This is where strategy matters.

Cards like Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Capital One Venture X offer Priority Pass access — but knowing when and where to use it is key.

Lounge access isn’t necessary. But when used right, it elevates the entire experience. Travel better — not just more.
